Projects
We are looking for future funding, in order to support our projects developed in partnership with grass-roots Deaf people, living in Central Africa.

Initially we at Deaf Education Africa Foundation (D.E.A.F) want to support the many Deaf children and Deaf women and girls, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who are denied opportunities to get basic education and gain suitable employment. This is because of their invisible disability and those communication barriers which leave almost all Deaf people, without a means to support themselves, and to stand on their own financially.
In addition, in the Congo, being Deaf, culturally, women are also at a disadvantage, as they are denied loans from banks or financial institutions, especially if they have never worked before. Married women are sometimes no better off, as their husbands earn all the income brought into the household and spend the money, often leaving the women with nothing.
We at D.E.A.F, want to support Deaf children so that they can receive a basic education. We also want to support Deaf women & girls, to establish their own businesses, as they are the most vulnerable in Congolese society. Most women are often left to earn a living through prostitution, from as young as 9 years old.
The D.E.A.F can make a big difference to the lives of Deaf people in Central Africa. Our aims are to make long and lasting contributions to the lives of many Deaf people. There are very few other organisations doing this essential work, for Deaf people in Central Africa.
We know from experience that Deaf people can study up to higher education level, they are able to contribute economically and socially within the mainstream communities, provided they are given the right support and tools to do so.
For all these reasons and many others, the D.E.A.F continues to set up and support various projects for the benefit of Deaf people living in Central Africa. |
